Dr. Kris Shewmake specializes in Cosmetic Surgery and is dedicated to helping his patients achieve a more attractive, youthful, and natural appearance. His individualized approach and surgical skills have earned him an excellent reputation for achieving a very natural and “un-operated” appearance for his patients. Dr. Shewmake received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas Medical Center. He was president of his class and elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society (top 10% of the class). His eight years of surgical training after medical school included a General Surgery residency at the University of Arkansas Medical Center and a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency in Dallas at the University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Shewmake then spent an extra year at UCLA working with children and adults affected by facial birth deformities. Upon completion of his fellowship in 1992, Dr. Shewmake returned to his native state of Arkansas as Chief of Plastic Surgery at UAMS and Arkansas Children‘s Hospital. In 1996 he left UAMS and entered private practice. Dr. Shewmake is "board certified" by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is a member of many respected professional associations including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the Arkansas and American Medical Societies, and he is one of only two plastic surgeons in Arkansas to become a member of an elite group of plastic surgeons known as the "Association of Plastic Surgeons." Dr. Shewmake has presented and published numerous scientific papers in Plastic Reconstructive Surgery. He continues his education by participating in national conferences and courses covering the latest techniques in aesthetic, plastic, and reconstructive surgery. On a more personal level, Dr. Shewmake is married, a father of five children, and active in his church. He serves as co-director of "Operation New Life" and leads surgical teams twice a year to serve the poor in Honduras and to teach in the medical school there.
